The beloved motocross with friend Matthias Walkner, ski mountaineering, mountain climbing, lots of fresh snow and, only recently, even some skiing on the track after having presented a TV program on holidays in Austria.
The last 15 months of Marcel Hirscher, from the retirement announced on the evening of 4 September 2019, have passed like this, in total relaxation and thinking a lot about his family, his Laura and the little one born in October 2018. Away from the white circus he left at the Soldeu finals in March 2019 with the eighth consecutive crystal ball in his hands, but with a bond that is still very strong, also because father Ferdinand continued to follow the young Austrians and, together with the historic coach of Marcel, Mike Pircher , he then joined the World Cup squad for the giant last spring, of which the Styrian coach is the manager responsible.
Yet, even if thinking of a return to competitive spirit with two sabbatical years behind it seems almost impossible, even at 32 and without serious injuries behind him there would be no contraindication in this regard, something seems to have moved in the last hours ...
THE VIDEO AND THE WORDS TO THE FRIEND ALEX HOFSTETTER
The most successful athlete in the history of alpine skiing lit the fuse by publishing, on Saturday evening, a video of a few seconds with some curves drawn in “his” Reiteralm, a fiefdom where he built most of his successes. Well, there is little to discuss about technique and physical fitness, but the statements he made to the journalist Alex Hofstetter of the "Kronen Zeitung", a person with whom there has been some confidence for years and who wrote his biography, which came out a couple of months after his retirement. “I was curious to understand how I would feel on skis and I must say that I enjoyed it a lot. I have missed these sensations ”.
And today other clues arrived: "I'm still enthusiastic", reposting photos of this first "real" training in the Styrian town, and the same words of the big boss of the Austrian men's sector, Andreas Puelacher, released during the day on the national TV ORF . “Yes, Marcel also trained with the team, he wanted to ski and I saw him fit. A return? We have not talked about it, he has not hinted at such a hypothesis ”.
In Austria, but not only at this point, speculations are now wasting away.
THE REACTIONS OF FORMER COLLEAGUES
The instagram world, in all this, helps to spice up the story. From Roland Fischnaller, the blue snowboard ace, to Giorgio Rocca, the enthusiasm for what Hirscher showed on social media was evident, but there are many former colleagues of the Salzburg champion who have recalled Marcel ... to '' order.
Lots of messages to convince him to return, or simply of great curiosity and at the same time paying attention to those clues that, obviously, many do not consider random. “I miss competing with the king”, wrote Adam Zampa, while Julien Lizeroux, who has always had a relationship of great esteem and friendship with the two Olympic champion, let him know that “it seems to see the old Marcel”.
“Comeback ???”, the message of former teammate Philipp Schoerghofer, and the same Victor Muffat-Jeandet who wishes. "Will 2020 bring good news at the very end?" For Steven Nyman "someone at home is bored and needs some adrenaline", while Kjetil Jansrud, another great champion linked to Marcel by a good relationship, has garnered a lot of acclaim for his usual sympathy. “I'm Kjetil from FIS services.
