A constancy of ... giant, the one that Marco Odermatt found among the wide doors in this first phase of the season. The Swiss, now fourth on the Gran Risa, kept his leadership in the specialty with a margin (50 points over Pinturault), obtaining an important placement after having already made all the steps of the podium in the three previous giants (2nd in Soelden, 3rd and 1st in Santa Caterina).
It is also clear that, with only one top-level specialty (the first two super-gs of the season didn't go very well), the 23-year-old from Nidwalden will struggle to fight for the overall if Aleksander Aamodt Kilde and Alexis Pinturault keep the pace in their disciplines, as done in the last few occasions. We will talk about a giant again on 8-9 January with the unprecedented double appointment in Adelboden, with the first race on the Chuenisbargli which will have the same seven protagonists in the first sub-group (Pinturault overtook Zubcic in command of the WCSL, for the rest hasn't changed much).
Despite today's zero, Luca De Aliprandini still has a decent margin to defend the top 15, even if they come from behind as Schmid and Murisier are very close to Trentino; Atle Lie McGrath himself, with today's 2nd place, has already jumped to 18th position (today he started with bib 29). The second and third blue in the ranking are Riccardo Tonetti and Giovanni Borsotti, with the Bolzano player back in the thirty, 29th and 1 point ahead of the Piedmontese, who now risks a lot and, on one of his favorite slopes (remember the splendid 1st heat of the last year in Adelboden?), he will have to redeem himself immediately.
