Odermatt pushes to Saas-Fee and gets full of confidence: "My first preparation went smoothly"

One of the great protagonists of last season looks to the World Cup and the Olympics: "I already feel ready, the disappointment of Cortina will serve me as an experience in the top events".

Three victories (two in giant and one in super-g), a super season finale with an exciting comeback against Alexis Pinturault, stopped first by the weather and then by the giant of the Lenzerheide finals which cost Marco Odermatt both the victory in the final classification of the specialty cup and in the general. It was the season of the definitive explosion of the 23-year-old Swiss polyvalent, even if the second places in the rankings of giant, super-g and precisely at the absolute level, in addition to the "zero" in the medal box at the Cortina World Cup, left that bitter aftertaste that the Nidvaldese will try to transform into successes in the Olympic year which, in fact, for Odermatt began immediately after mid-August in Saas-Fee. On the snows of the Swiss glacier, where the Italian slalomgiant riders are also present these days, Marco has started to get serious on the track, having disposed of the athletic block carried out in Seefeld in the previous weeks. Asked by SRF Sport, the champion from Buochs has shown himself to be very confident for the starting base that will launch him towards 2021/22: "It is the first summer training, in a few years now, in which I can work without previous injuries. There has been a lot of progress in the last few weeks, in the areas of strength and base, so I already feel ready for the new season ”. Odermatt returns to last season, but looks more ahead than anything else: “I collected many podiums and three victories, I would certainly have signed them before the start, but I'm not one who analyzes everything in detail, especially when a lot of positive things happen. I prefer to continue and think about the future, bringing with me from every race the things I can improve. Unfortunately, the World Championship did not go very well, even if it was just a short distance away, but in Cortina I was able to gain a lot of experience for the next big events ”. First and foremost the Beijing Olympics.
