Josef Ferstl crashed badly in the morning test of the Kitzbuehel descent in the Mausefalle area, but fortunately there do not seem to be too serious consequences for the German sprinter born in 1988. Transported by helicopter to the St. Johann hospital (a mandatory practice on the Streif ), according to initial examinations and communications from the DSV, the German federation, in addition to a cut to the nose there should be no major injuries.
The son of art, among other things, had just this morning received the official call for the Olympic Games in Beijing 2022: Germany will propose ten athletes in alpine skiing, including three women with Kira Weidle, fresh from 2nd placed in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee descent, the only reference in speed, Lena Duerr (three podiums of the season in slalom) and the very young 2003 class Emma Aicher, obviously in her first participation in five circles.
Seven men have been chosen: in addition to Ferstl, in the list there are Romed Baumann, Andreas Sander (both silver in Cortina between super-g and world descent), Simon Jocher and Dominik Schwaiger as five sprinters, while in the technical tests, and certainly also in the team event being excellent specialists, here are Linus Strasser and Alexander Schmid, in the absence of the injured Stefan Luitz and remembering that Thomas Dressen had already announced his resignation weeks ago, despite having finally returned to the snow after another long stop.
