The evening bib drawing in Kranjska Gora brought the vice world champion the thrill of opening the ninth and penultimate giant of the World Cup season, scheduled for Saturday on the "Podkoren" (first heat at 9.30 , the second at 12.30).
Based on an American design (the second will instead be drawn by the Swiss company), the Trentino will obviously have to manage a new situation, in addition to the potential pitfalls of a track that is still very tough like the Slovenian one, but it is really a great opportunity to seek that first podium in CdM so expected. It will be a crucial day, the first of the two in Kranjska Gora with Sunday's slalom preceding the finals in Lenzerheide, also in view of the absolute World Cup, with Alexis Pinturault defending only 81 points of margin on Marco Odermatt, and the Swiss himself it is -25 from the transalpine as regards the crystal ball in the discipline.
Pinturault will start with bib number 4 in the 1st heat, Odermatt with 5, preceded by Meillard and Zubcic (who is -64 from the Frenchman and is called upon to compete for the giant cup again), followed instead by the champion of the world Mathieu Faivre, 2nd and 1st in Bansko and tomorrow at the start with the 6th, while the host Zan Kranjec will close the first sub-group. Attention to Schmid with the 8 and also to the first Austrian at the start and now the true reference of the Wunderteam among the wide doors, a Stefan Brennsteiner in great condition and finally in the fifteen (he caught the 11).
Kristoffersen, after years among the seven (he left the first subgroup to De Aliprandini after the Bansko races), will have to start with the number 13, with Marco Schwarz to close the 15. And then the other six Italians in the race: Tonetti and Borsotti still in series, with numbers 22 and 23, then Manfred Moelgg with 33, Alex Hofer to look for other points with 38, same speech for Hannes Zingerle who will start for 42nd and finally Filippo Della Vite, number 45 as a Bansko where he took a fabulous 16th place before not qualifying for the giant bis.
