It could not be otherwise, in the nation where skiing is national sport and multimillion-dollar investments.
After the first two World Cup races at male level without podiums (overall, only the 3rd place of Katharina Truppe in Levi arrived), the pressure at home is all on the Wunderteam sprinters, ready for the debut in the Saturday night downhill (8.15 pm) in Lake Louise.
In the first test, Reichelt and his companions did very well, with four elements among the first six; Kriechmayr, Mayer, Franz and Striedinger have already appeared on the ball and, especially the first three, are the references of a national team that must unlock, in one way or another.
After the flop in Levi's slalom, coach Andreas Puelacher spoke of "work to do to understand what we need to improve with athletes and technicians", while presidentissimo Peter Schroecksnadel said he expected a lot from the two Lake Louise races, also asking that his people did not squeeze themselves in too much of a trial.
In the meantime, it has been discovered that Max Franz married in great secrecy, a bit like his friend Marcel Hirscher in 2018; and the goblin of Annaberg-Lungotz is missing to die to an Austrian national that will have to play itself, probably, also the classification for nations point to point. For sprinters the task of opening a new era.
