Marcel Hirscher received thousands of appreciations, both on a sporting and human level, in the post-announcement hours of the farewell to competitive skiing.
The former colleagues exposed themselves clearly, perhaps even unexpectedly, starting from a legend like Aksel Lund Svindal, who played the general World Cup against the ace from Salzburg several times.
For the Norwegian myth, there is no doubt: Marcel is the GOAT of the skiing world, simply the best of all time.
"Excuse me Stenmark, but for me and all those who have dealt with Marcel as an opponent, he is the greatest skier in history. It was an honor to compete with you. "
He gave a video to his great (ex) opponent also Alexis Pinturault, directly from the Saas Fee snow rally: "Marcel, I didn't think I had to leave this message this year, but now I can only thank you because you were the rival that everyone dreams of, because you have allowed me to improve and bring my limits where ever I would have imagined. You are the greatest skier of all time â€.
He waited a few hours and, today, Henrik Kristoffersen also posted on social media his thoughts on who was considered the true beast of the 25 year old Norwegian: "The king, the greatest ... I was hoping for another round on snow with you, but your decision is more understandable. It was an honor to fight with you and become your rival, then also a kind of friend. Enjoy your life, your wife and your child ".
For Clement Noel, the phenomenal French slalomist who had tried to unseat from the throne King Hirscher in the classics of last winter, simply Hirscher is "Greatest of all times", as the term GOAT is used by Ted Ligety, the first great rival in the career of the Salzburg champion. "Marcel pushed each of us beyond the limits we thought was possible."
And if Giuliano Razzoli says that "it was a privilege to be at the gate with him, which made it seem easy what in reality was almost impossible", the words of another recently retired athlete, Erik Guay, are heard. The former Canadian sprinter emphasized Hirscher's sportiness and humanity: "He retires the best skier in history, a fantastic athlete and an incredible ambassador of our sport, but above all a good and smart person".
