At not even 21 years old he was one step away from the Olympic medal, when on the finish line of the 2nd round of the Olympic giant of Sochi, Stefan Luitz literally threw at least the silver behind Ted Ligety, going out practically at the last door. Eight years later, the German specialist will try to make up for that very bitter day, on the occasion of the Beijing Games which he will face, like all next season, with a great novelty: in recent days, in fact, Luitz announced his farewell to Rossignol, the house that practically followed him from the beginning of his career, winning his only World Cup race with the transalpine brand (the controversial giant of Beaver Creek 2018, successfully removed for the "case of oxygen" and then returned), to start a path with Head. The Teutonic giant has returned from another year full of ups and downs: 7th in the parallel of Lech / Zuers, never in the top ten in his discipline until the World Championships in Cortina, where he competed just after an injury (injury to the left thigh, who kept him out of Adelboden until the world championship in February) and did very well, finishing 7th in giant and with the bronze medal around his neck thanks to the team event. Luitz closed 2020/21 fairly well, with two tenth places in the giants of Kranjska Gora and the finals of Lenzerheide, then the turning point. For one of the most anticipated talents of the last decade, who never definitively blossomed to the levels expected from him (also due to the many physical problems), now comes a crucial moment to find himself at the top at the age of 28.
