60 days before the World Cup returns, “construction” of the course has begun in Levi using snow stored months ago

In Levi, they have begun “building” the course for what is now the World Cup’s season-opening event in the discipline: the two slaloms that kick off the season between the gates in mid-November.

The “Levi Black” will in fact be covered with snow ahead of the November 14–15 weekend, when the women and then the men will take centre stage at the resort beyond the Arctic Circle, exactly three weeks after Soelden.

And this year too, regardless of how the weather and temperatures develop over the next two months, the guarantee is linked to the snow stored between winter and last spring, thermally insulated before being put to use, starting today, 60 days before the Finnish event on the top circuit. The snowfarming system is well established and highly reliable in Levi.

For the women’s World Cup, the northern challenge will be the first of three consecutive slaloms in November, followed by Gurgl and the return of Killington, while after Austria the men will once again head to Copper Mountain for super-G and giant slalom, following the women’s calendar in this case as well.

Last year, Mikaela Shiffrin claimed her ninth victory on the Levi Black, and it will be interesting to see how, in the event of a tenth triumph, the American superstar handles choosing the name to give the animal symbol of the race. Among the men, 2025 saw Lucas Pinheiro Braathen’s historic first victory under the Brazilian flag.
