Four years after his death, Giovanni Morzenti receives justice from the European Court of Human Rights

The sentence speaks of an unfair trial immediately for the sentence that brought the former FISI president to prison in 2014. The Italian state will have to compensate the family.

Giovanni Morzenti - president of the FISI from 2007 to 2011 - underwent an unfair trial and for this reason the family of the former federal number 1, who died at the age of 66 in 2017, will have to be compensated by the Italian state. This is what was established in recent days, with definitive judgment, by the European Court of Human Rights, to which Morzenti and his family members then appealed, in relation to the conviction for extortion that brought the manager from Bergamo (who later moved soon in Piedmont) to serve in prison in 2014 for the crime of extortion. In the ruling, it is "alleged that there has been a violation of Article 6 of the Convention on Human Rights". Morzenti became president of the FISI in 2007, after the commissioner period that followed the resignation of the previous president, Gaetano Coppi. He remained in office until 2011 and under his presidency the Vancouver Olympics were held, where the FISI won four medals with the gold of Giuliano Razzoli in slalom, the silver of Pietro Piller Cottrer in the 15 km free technique, the historic bronze of Alessandro Pittin, the first Italian medalist in the history of Nordic combined, and the bronze of Armin Zoeggeler in sledding.
