"Not having obtained the Alpine Ski World Championships in Sestriere in 2029, undoubtedly represents a serious political defeat not only for the town of the upper Val Susa but for the whole Milky Way and for Piedmont itself".
These are the words of Giorgio Merlo, Communication Councilor of the Mountain Union Olympic Municipalities Via Lattea, and Maurizio Beria D''Argentina, President of the same reality, the day after the defeat of Sestriere in the confrontation with Val Gardena, in the election of the Italian candidate who will play for the possibility of hosting the world championship event in 8 years.
There will be no encore in Sestriere 1997 and there is no lack of criticism, as well as the need for a profound analysis of the situation: "In the face of this choice, which follows the non-achievement of the 2026 Winter Olympics in our territory, we cannot but concentrate immediately our attention to the need to strengthen the national and international vocation of our localities in terms of winter sports - reads the note again - On this side we are seriously committed to ensuring that the Milky Way sector is not reduced to being a simple and banal appendage of other tourist and sporting locations ".
