The high temperatures recorded up to now and those expected in the next few days have forced the organizers of the Tarvisio European Cup races to raise the white flag.

The decision was made this morning following an in-depth snow check carried out by the International Federation (FIS) along the entire Di Prampero track, designated to host two downhill races valid for the circuit on 12 and 13 January continental.
The high temperatures that hit the entire Alpine area prevented the PromoTurismoFVG technicians from fully complying with the preparation program for the race track. Although the upper part of the track fully complied with all the stringent requirements imposed by the FIS, it was the condition of the final stretch that prompted the organizers to cancel the races.
"We really tried them all - comments laconically Damiano Matiz, President of the US Camporosso company in charge of organizing the two descents - we examined various hypotheses in order to save the races including the shortening of the length of the track and the International Federation it would have even allowed us to do it, but in the end it would have been to distort the very essence of this fantastic discipline and above all it would not have been a good calling card for our future goals. Our main goal, in fact, is to bring back the Coppa del Mondo in Tarvisio because we know that the Di Prampero is the only track in the region where there are the right conditions to bring the White Circus. When I speak of the right conditions, I don't only mean the technical characteristics of the track or the tourist-landscape aspect , but if anything I'm going to consider other aspects of a logistical nature such as, for example, the ease of reaching the competition site, the large or arrival parterre, hotel accommodation, and last but not least safety. In fact, Di Prampero guarantees unique safety standards in our Region. Thanks to its large width over almost the entire length of the track, this track allows athletes to have large escape routes that prevent violent impacts on the nets and this aspect together with those I mentioned previously are very dear themes to the International Federation. For this reason, after having carefully checked the weather forecasts for the next few days in agreement with the PromoTurismoFVG technicians, whom I sincerely thank for the enormous work done so that the slope could host the two descents, we have decided to cancel the two competitions."
Despite today's cancellation of the Tarvisio races, the US Camporosso in concert with PromoTurismoFVG did not lose heart by proposing to the International Federation the recovery of the two descents at Sella Nevea.
"We raised the white flag on the Tarvisio races, but we are already working to organize their recovery in Sella Nevea - explains Matiz proudly - thanks to the support of the men of PromoTurismoFVG and the many volunteers we have involved, we are ready to move to Sella Nevea to maintain the two free descents in Friuli Venezia Giulia. Of course it won't be easy because we will have to move to Sella only for the races since, as always, the headquarters will remain in Tarvisio, but if this is the only possibility we have we will not hesitate sure back."
The tenacity shown by the US Camporosso positively impressed the men of the FIS who immediately accepted the change of venue, placing as a sine qua non the overcoming of the snow control of the Canin Competition. Now the last useful date to confirm or not the races is set for Wednesday 4 January.
