Aspiring alpine ski course homologators: the first of three training days held in Pila

Today marks exactly one year since the death of Matteo Franzoso and, ever since Matilde Lorenzi left us just over 10 months earlier, also in a piste accident, the issue of safety has finally returned to the forefront. It is essential that it be discussed far more than it was in the years preceding two immense tragedies such as those involving the very young athlete from Piedmont and the Ligurian speed specialist, especially regarding training, since that is when athletes face the greatest risks.

Last Saturday, Pila hosted the first of three training days for aspiring alpine ski course homologators, organised by the FISI Course Homologation Commission. The day was attended by aspiring homologators representing eight Regional Committees and took place on the slopes of the Aosta Valley resort. It was divided into two distinct sessions: in the morning, participants carried out a practical inspection on the course, while the afternoon was devoted to classroom-based theoretical training.

The session was led by Elena Gaja Des Ambrois, Vice President of the National Courses Commission and President of the FIS Alpine Skiing Commission, and Cristiano Ferrante, a member of the National Courses Commission.

The Italian Winter Sports Federation wished to thank Pila S.p.A. and its Director, Mauro Cornaz, as well as the Regional Course Homologation Manager, Ettore Mosca Barberis—both homologators with proven national and international experience—for their valuable cooperation and the support provided to the working group throughout the day.

The training programme will continue with the other two sessions scheduled for the autumn: in Madesimo on 9 October and in Cortina d’Ampezzo on 24 October.
