In an interview with Bild, the former great German slalomist (father of Felix and husband of Rosi Mittermaier) revealed what happened last summer, with weeks of hospitalization.

Christian Neureuther had a really bad time this time.
The 72-year-old German champion, winner of six slaloms in the World Cup and a great protagonist in the era of the Blue Avalanche, revealed in an interview with “Bild am Sonntag” that he risked his life last summer.
What happened? While he was chopping wood in the woods around his house, Neureuther was stung by a tick, not even realizing it; after a few weeks, he began to feel ill and it became clear, once he was hospitalized in his Garmisch-Partenkirchen, that it was tick-borne meningoencephalitis (TBE), a serious disease affecting the brain. "Once I was admitted to the neurological department of the Innsbruck clinic, I realized that my brain was no longer functioning properly - explained Christian, Felix's father and husband of Rosi Mittermaier, another immense champion of a very special family - Everything revolved before my eyes, a dizziness that no longer allowed me to stand up ”.
Discharged a few days ago, now Neureuther sr is finally fine, even if he has lost 6 kg and back problems persist. “I came out of it thanks to the best doctors and my family”, concluded the great German champion.
