Novakova pips Cutler in La Parva downhill repeat, men’s race won by Roesle again

The South American Cup stop in La Parva featured its second downhill race, but Haley Cutler did not manage to repeat her victory on the Chilean snow.

The American, who was seeking her third downhill double here after 2024 and 2025, was pipped by Barbora Novakova by 6 hundredths. Runner-up yesterday, 0”11 behind her more experienced American teammate, the Czech born in 2002 claimed a race with 20 starters and no Italian women competing, securing her second victory on the South American circuit after winning the super-G here 12 months ago.

Argentina’s Nicole Begue (fourth in the first downhill) completed the podium, 51 hundredths back, while Chile’s Schwencke finished fourth this time, 1”29 behind, ahead of Britain’s Gorringe and Canada’s Fleckenstein (exactly 2” behind Novakova). Fleckenstein is aiming to return to the World Cup in the coming winter season, three years after the terrible injury she suffered in Val d’Isère and after regaining her competitiveness—and securing a victory—in the Nor-Am Cup last February.

The men’s second downhill, once again featuring a high-quality field, was won by Felix Roesle, as it was 24 hours earlier. The German, born in 2005, beat Matthieu Bailet by 33 hundredths, just as he did in Tuesday’s race 1. Felix Monsen was slightly closer (+ 0”72) and again took the podium, ahead of Simon Jocher (0”99 behind) and the second Frenchman, Ken Caillot, who finished 1”04 behind the dominant racer of these two days. American Wilson followed, along with the other Germans, Brandis (seventh) and Schwarz (eighth).

The first two super-G races are scheduled at La Parva on Thursday.
