While almost all the main national teams are finishing their respective overseas rallies, the 2022 edition of the South American Cup ended yesterday in Italy.
On the Chilean snows of Corralco, the last two races have sanctioned the final winners of the general rankings of the South American circuit, with the fight that was still open only at the male level. A thrilling finale gave the trophy to twenty-year-old Argentine Tiziano Gravier, son of model Valeria Mazza and a boy who has grown up a lot in recent months, so much so that he also carves out a space for the last Olympic Games in Beijing.
Gravier cheated by only 6 points, 721 against the 715 of his rival, the Chilean Henrik Von Appen who had dominated the descents at the beginning of the week in Corralco, bypassing his Chilean compatriot Andres Figueroa, at the end third. At the female level, everything has already been decided with Lara Colturi who, at the first experiences at FIS level, dominated with almost 300 points of margin against the Argentine Francesca Baruzzi Farriol; for the Piedmontese who from this season runs for the colors of Albania, the debut in the World Cup already in the giant of Soelden is anything but to be excluded.
In Corralco, Norwegian Malin Sofie Sund scored a personal hat-trick, in one fell swoop, winning the super-g yesterday, with more than 2 seconds compared to the Chilean Florencia. Aramburo, second again.
Henrik Von Appen won among men, 1 ”36 ahead of his younger brother Sven and 1” 38 over the British Roy-Alexander Steudle, but fourth place was crucial for Tiziano Gravier. The Argentine, in fact, then took home the combined success, with the American class of 2004 Laiken Roth 2nd at 64 cents and Henrik Von Appen himself third at 1 ”89, while Carlo Alberto Arduino (the only Italian at the start as well as downhill) did not start after taking home a 22nd place in super-g.
Among the women, Sund also dominated the combined, with more than two and a half seconds of margin against the Argentine Sofia Bogni Barry (already third in SG) and with the Chilean Aramburo back on the podium, third.
Today in Corralco the slalom valid for the national championships, closing on Saturday with double giant.
