Crans-Montana, 40 years later: the World Ski Championships return to Switzerland, the 2027 edition assigned

In Milan comes the verdict for the world championship that will come after Courchevel-Méribel 2023 and Saalbach 2025 (and in 2029 Val Gardena will try ...). Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Narvik and Soldeu routes.

It will be Crans-Montana, forty years after the first and only time in the Canton of Valais, only ten after the last edition of an Alpine Skiing World Championship hosted by Switzerland, i.e. Sankt Moritz 2017. The FIS has formalized the choice of the location that will stage the world championship event of 2027: the Swiss candidacy made it, that of a location and an organizing committee that has been working flawlessly in the World Cup for years and prevailed, on the evening that closed the first day of the FIS congress in Milan, over the rivals Garmisch-Partenkirchen (again defeated as for the 2025 edition, which will be held in Saalbach after that of 2023 in Courchevel -Méribel), Narvik, who dreamed of a historic first like Soldeu, who will still have the 2023 World Cup finals in the Principality of Andorra, after those of 2019. At this point, it will be understood in the coming weeks which realities will try again for 2029, where the only certainty so far is that of the Italian candidacy with Val Gardena. The 2027 editions of the Nordic World Ski Championships, with Falun as the only candidate, as well as those of flying on skis that will be held for the seventh time in Oberstdorf, in 2026, will also be awarded, but it was only a matter of pure formality. Montafon, Austria to have the snowboard and freestyle world event for 2027.
