Eliasch ready for the revolution, between giant in single heat and indoor competitions: what future for the super-g?

The FIS president, who will be re-elected at the end of May, wants to change the World Cup calendar again. The only certainties Soelden and the "Speed Opening" on the Matterhorn, in the coming days there will be news on the 2022/23 season.

The new balance found, with 18 technical races and the same number of speed races (among other things, all played regularly), for the World Cup that ended a few days ago with the Courchevel-Méribel finals, does not seem to be the future of the maximum circuit. . Johan Eliasch, who became number 1 of the FIS 10 months ago and who will have to be re-elected at the end of May for the four-year period 2022-2026, without any doubt about the outcome of the vote given that the 60-year-old entrepreneur of Swedish origins will be the only candidate , intends to substantially change, after a season of evaluations, the format of the CdM. As reported by the "Kronen Zeitung", it is a matter of days to get the real draft of the calendars for the vintage 2022/23 and the long-term ones, which have not been updated for two years now, with the disappearance combined in the post-pandemic and the reduction of parallel races at the Lech / Zuers event only. The only certainties about the next season, in fact, are called Soelden (with the giants at the end of October) and the great news of the descents on the Matterhorn, with the highly anticipated “Speed Opening” brought forward to autumn 2022. For the rest, changes are being worked on that could be revolutionary, although it will be necessary to understand how many and which will be implemented as early as 2022/23: Eliasch would even like giant races with only one heat to "increase the show", combined and parallel they could be saved and, as the Swiss broadcaster SRF itself has relaunched, there would be a big sacrifice linked to the super-g, as has been rumored for years. The latter, probably, would be the most wrong choice ever, technically and in terms of feedback from the public of fans. We want to take advantage of the Beijing Olympic tracks for a fixed appointment in Asia, but we also think about indoor competitions (the hypothesis Dubai is always standing). In the coming days we will know more, then the ratification of the calendars in the FIS congress at the end of May.
