Hirschbuehl operated today in Innsbruck, farewell Olympics. Michaela Heider is also under the knife

At home Austria, the weekend between Wengen and Altenmarkt-Zauchensee left its mark in the negative: for the slalom rider he fractured his ankle, for the sprinter he injured his right knee and, also in his case, the season ended early.

He had practically guaranteed his pass for the Olympic Games with that magical night on the snow at home, in Lech / Zuers, winning the only seasonal parallel and his first World Cup race, but for Christian Hirschbuehl (who in Beijing would have almost certainly played in the team event) the dream vanished on Sunday in Wengen. The crash in the first heat of the fourth slalom of the season cost the veteran of Vorarlberg dearly; yesterday the visit to the Hochrum clinic in Innsbruck and the confirmation of a fracture in the right ankle, specifically in the anterior part of the tibia. Operation today, carried out by the team of Dr. Christian Hoser, and the season is over for the Austrian specialist. The 2021/22 vintage ended prematurely also for Michaela Heider: the Wunderteam sprinter, on the day when her boyfriend Vincent Kriechmayr triumphed in Wengen, had fallen last Saturday in the Altenmarkt-Zauchensee descent, ending up in the nets a few meters after the point of the Sofia Goggia accident. For the red and white '95 class, surgery today in Graz on the right knee, having remedied an injury to the lateral ligament and a bone contusion. Diagnosis not very long, a couple of months, but we will see it again only from next autumn.
