Erik Read, after more than four months without work on the track, can now exult like all the teammates of the national maple leaf team; the son of art, just yesterday, put his skis back on the Saas-Fee glacier, thanks to the agreement that Canada Alpin has found with Swiss-Ski to be able to work, since these last days of July, in the Swiss locations (including Zermatt), although we should also see some athletes at the Stelvio.
As the director of the performances of the Canadian alpine ski team, Phil McNichol (who arrived from Team USA last March 1st, just before the lockdown) explained to CBC, "there is a lot of work to do also because the boys have spent the longest period ever without skis. In Switzerland there is the maximum to be able to train at your best ".
Not all athletes have already arrived in Europe, like Marie-Michèle Gagnon who has experienced a particular situation: the Quebec native multipurpose must in fact finish the quarantine in Canada before she can leave, having spent the previous months together with her boyfriend Travis Ganong at Lake Tahoe, training in the locality between California and Nevada. "However, we were lucky to be able to train with all the best means for the gym - explained Gagnon - We have limited the meetings to the maximum, also because in the mountains we often spend periods without seeing people".
While there are no government obligations between Canada and Switzerland in terms of quarantine, the North American federation has decided to take all necessary precautions, also adding continuous tests during the same period of training on the glacier to create that "team bubble" that everyone is looking for. to maintain in the various areas, in order to continue the activity in a crucial period of preparation.
