As known since June, for the second consecutive year there will be no combined races in the World Cup calendar, definitely revolutionized with the decision of the FIS to equate the technical and fast tests, both for men and women. The only exception concerns the parallel, with only one test (for both circuits) in Lech / Zuers on 13 and 14 November. In reality, an attempt was made to place at least one combined before the Beijing Olympics, where this race will still be waiting to understand its future, definitely in the balance. Markus Waldner, chief race director of the men's World Cup, spoke to the Austrian TV ORF about the reasons why it was not possible to set up a test of this discipline. "We have evaluated all the options for this year, but no solution has been found for technical / organizational and financial reasons", the words of the South Tyrolean, referring to the possibility linked to Zauchensee for the girls and to Wengen for the historic combined male of the Lauberhorn. “The future of the combined? The new board of the FIS (who took office in June with the presidency of Johan Eliasch, ed) has not yet decided on this soon, ”confirmed the former president of the Austrian federation, councilor of the International Federation, Peter Schroecksnadel. In any case, the extraordinary congress set for next 8 October will have to define its fate.
