It is practically made for the new president of the Austrian federation, who will be officially elected on June 19th. After a long night of negotiations, the names of Michael Walchhofer and Renate Goetschl have lapsed.

A surprising name, but clearly addressed by the presidency of Peter Schroecksnadel who, after 31 years, will leave the leadership of the OESV within a few weeks.
Karl Schmidhofer will be the first president of the Austrian federation after the very long reign of the Tyrolean manager and entrepreneur; between yesterday evening and the night, as reported today by all the national media, there was a reversal since, until a few hours ago, the only candidates for the leadership of the OESV were the former downhill skiers of the Wunderteam, Michael Walchhofer and Renate Goetschl, among other things not without controversy between the two.
The vote of the various regional associations led to the choice of Schmidhofer (uncle of the descender Nicole), after a long battle which ended practically at 1.30 am; number 1 of the regional association of Styria, the future president will be officially elected on June 19 at the national conference in Villach, but it is basically all done for a man with a great deal of experience in various fields. Karl Schmidhofer has been a member of the National Council of the Austrian National Party since April 2019 and, as he already announced last night, will give up his role in Parliament for this new adventure.
Fifty-nine years old, Schmidhofer is a business consultant and for 21 years, from 1993 to 2014l, managing partner of Lachtal Seilbahnen and Kreischberg Seilbahnen (2001-2014), owner and CEO of Lift GesmbH St. Lambrecht-Grebenzen (2015-2018) and director delegate of Hauser Kaibling Seilbahn (2019).
Schroecksnadel has every intention of remaining on the FIS Council; according to the “Kleine Zeitung”, reporting sources of a former Austrian federal official, his political weight and influence on the various companies belonging to the OESV is still very important and has led to at least a turbulent succession.
