Kjetil Jansrud, in fact, is thinking of competing in the inaugural giant scheduled for Sunday, October 27 in Soelden, while training between super-g and descent on the Saas-Fee snow.
For the world champion in the position of downhill, it would be a counter-trend choice compared to the almost total farewell to a specialty that saw him climb even on an Olympic podium, in Vancouver 2010, but in another time between the doors wide. The last appearance of the Norwegian champion dates back to December 2, 2018 in Beaver Creek, with a 28th place, although the Rettenbach has always liked Kjetil (thanks to the final plan on which to assert its qualities of fluency), sixth in 2009, tenth in 2011 and twice 15th in 2012 and 2014, while in 2016 (the last men's race on the Rettenbach before the cancellations of the last two editions) was released in the 2nd round, already very far from the summit.
Jansrud joked on social media with his fans about whether or not to be there for the opening, alongside leader Henrik Kristoffersen and a Norwegian national who will certainly propose Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, who trained in Soelden these days.
News of the last hour at home in Austria: Christian Hirschbuehl, who had not been included among the squad for the inaugural giant, injured his knee on Friday during a session on the Rettenbach, flying immediately to Innsbruck for a visit he did not find. serious problems, but will force him to a couple of weeks without skiing. In Saas-Fee, alongside Jansrud, Ilka Stuhec was also present, in full recovery after a knee injury last February in Crans Montana; the Slovenian sprinter will not compete on the Rettenbach (in competition the teammates Hrovat, Bucik, Robnik and Dvornik, among the men there will be only Kranjec and Hadalin), to begin the season directly in Lake Louise in early December.
The same choice as Tina Weirather, who trained in Soelden between Thursday and Friday, but confirmed the absence for the first race of the year to focus mainly on downhill and super-g, as already announced last year just on the eve of Soelden.
