On the occasion of the 38th meeting between the organizing committees of the under 16 international competitions, which took place in the Slovenian town of Skofja Loka, the awaited calendar of FIS Children alpine skiing competitions from all over the world was launched. A program of events, which includes 30 races, the most prestigious of which remains the Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup, which will be held from Sunday 22 to Saturday 28 January 2023 on the slopes of Folgaria, in Trentino.
The youth event with the most prestigious history of the circuit, made up of 62 editions, 52 of which with the validity of the International Criterium, after passing the last two difficult years characterized by the health emergency, will be re-proposed with the complete format, including events collateral and moments of encounter and comparison. Already on the evening of Sunday 22 January, the parade of the teams of the Regional Committees of Italy is scheduled, which on Monday and Tuesday will compete in the special slalom and giant slalom races on the Martinella Nord and Agonistica slopes at Fondo Grande di Folgaria, valid to form the two Italian teams, which will participate in the international phase, as well as for the assignment of the Vallagarina Cassa Rurale Trophy.
Wednesday afternoon will be the turn of the team event, the parallel team always felt and fought, so Thursday around 18 here is the inaugural ceremony of the international event with the oath of the nations and the lighting of the tripod, to give life then on Friday and on Saturday at the four giant and slalom races, which will decide the winners of the 2023 edition, again at Fondo Grande di Folgaria. Last year the nations represented were 31, there is hope with the return to normalcy we can get closer to historical numbers, or more than 40 national representatives at the gates. "Our organization - explains Fabrizio Gennari, president of the Organizing Committee - thanks also to the stimulus of the Alpe Cimbra Ski Team, which takes care of all the technical aspects, proposed the inclusion in the program of controlled downhill competitions in the Slovenian Meeting, with the goal of developing smoothness and speed management skills for young skiers.
An idea that was appreciated by the organizers and that was also discussed in the FIS board, which should materialize in 2024, recalling how the Trentino children's race in the past has taken on the role of an experimental event for new disciplines in the past as the supercombi, the skicross and the parallel. The other innovations that emerged from the international symposium concerned the affiliation and the inclusion in the calendar of a race in Kosovo and the decision to organize the 39th Meeting of the Organizing Committees in September 2023 precisely in Folgaria ”.
The area is also ready to host the under 16 ski World Cup, as the president of the Apt Alpe Cimbra, Gianluca Gatti, highlights: "The Alpe Cimbra FIS Children Cup represents an important event for our ski area and for Trentino , as an event that strongly expresses the link between sport and territories. An important role in the organization of the event is played by the Polisportiva Alpe Cimbra and by FolgariaSki, which, by putting in place "snow professionals", has always guaranteed the best conditions for competitions.
The Tourist Board is already working alongside this complex organization to guarantee the best possible welcome ”.
An event that has been and will be in the future a springboard to the great stages of skiing. In the past, Gustav Thoeni, Piero Gros, Ingemar Stenmark, Marc Girardelli, Christian Neureuther, Pirmin Zurbriggen, Anita Wachter, Pernilla Wiberg, Deborah Compagnoni, Nadia Fanchini, Lindsey Vonn, Giorgio Rocca, Alberto Tomba, Kristian Ghedina and Marcel Hirscher have worn the bib. . Over half of the participants in the 2021/2022 World Cup passed through and some even won in the Trentino youth competition.
