Austria cancels the final stages of Saalbach and Reiteralm: even the European Cup is over

No races after the Narvik Junior World Championships. General classifications at McGrath and Fest, all the fixed places conquered by the Azzurri: Nani, Liberatore, Prast and the Rossetti-Peterlini couple in the top 3 of specialties.

The press release of the Austrian Federsci leaves no room for replies, even if the ratification of the cancellations by the FIS is lacking, which in any case will not recover the last few races considering the dramatic situation linked to the Coronavirus. The European Cup, both for men and women, ends without the last races scheduled after the Narvik junior world championships: the Saalbach and Reiteralm tests, scheduled in the first case on 17-18 March with men's and super descent and super-g, have been canceled -g for girls, and in the second from 20 to 22 March with a giant and a slalom for both sexes. The restrictions imposed by the Austrian government meant that the federation chaired by Peter Schroecksnadel announced the cancellation today: this means that the permanent seats for the 2020/21 season of the World Cup are in fact assigned, while the general classification was won by Atle Lie McGrath in the men's field, with the Norwegian phenomenon class 2000 that dominated before the Austrians Haaser and Koeck, as the Carinthian colleague Nadine Fest, who made the void behind him preceding the compatriot Schneeberger and the German Hilzinger. In Italy, in addition to the 6th final place of Valentina Cillara Rossi in the female general and the fourth of Alexander Prast in the male one, you can celebrate the conquest of five permanent places thanks to the respective top 3 in the specialty rankings. Among the men, Roberto Nani made it, 2nd in giant behind McGrath and in front of Feurstein, then Federico Liberatore in slalom with the third place behind Holzmann and McGrath himself, as well as Prast in Piazza d ' honor in the super-g, between the Austrians Haaser and Koeck. Fifth final place, after last year's triumph, for Davide Cazzaniga in the downhill classification conquered by the French Giraud Moine ahead of the Austrians Koeck and Hemetsberger. Women's sector: great continuity for Valentina Cillara Rossi, but no fixed place between the 5th place downhill (podium with Fest on Schneeberger and Kopp), the same giant position (Rask-Escane-Moerzinger) and the 8th in super-g, preceded by a position by Giulia Albano and with Fest winning ahead of Dannewitz and Jasmina Suter. The double fixed place comes instead in slalom with Marta Rossetti, second behind the German Hilzinger, and Martina Peterlini third equal to Elena Stoffel, but in any case in front of the Swiss thanks to the two seasonal victories (the first of the career) obtained by thirty.
