10) The first podium in Gardena - 16th December 1989 - Free descent Twenty years just completed and the feeling with the track on which it will triumph four times, explodes immediately in the period of Swiss domination. Ghedina will not get a great result in the Olympic descent (23rd), but the public will pay homage to him with a thrilling tribute. A month later, on March 15, 2006, the last race in the maximum circuit in Are, ended with an honorable 13th place.
5) The last jolt in Chamonix - 8 January 2005 - LiberaSulla descent on "Verte", already tamed in 1997, the "Ghedo" gives all its fans the last podium, the 33rd in the World Cup. For over 35 years, only the emerging Austrian Johann Grugger will precede him by 11 cents, with the blue jet ahead of the current world champion Michael Walchhofer.
4) The dramatic accident on Milan-Turin - 7 April 1991 - It is a spring Sunday when the "Ghedo", lover of speed even in the car, crashes at almost 200 km / h (as he will confess later) height of Arluno. His condition immediately appears to be very serious, among the Passat plates destroyed due to an accident that is said to have been caused by the outbreak of a tire. Kristian will remain in a coma for three days at the hospital in Rho, but head trauma and brain damage worry more than anything else. It will take months to find balance, reflexes and to show everyone that they still have that madness inside that will bring them back to the track already at the start of the 1991/92 season, with an incredible 6th place in his Val Gardena, in the second race Cup since return. Only 3 years and a month later, however, the expected podium will arrive with 3rd place in Kitzbuehel and, the following week, the triumph in the Wengen descent. Yes, the "Ghedo" is back.
3) The rebirth in the temple - January 13, 1995 - Kitzbuehel, Streif. Two names that arouse fear only to mention them, but which represent the paradise for Ghedina. The first podium after the 1991 road accident, arrives right in the ski temple: a fabulous 3rd place, 32 cents from Luc Alphand and just behind Patrick Ortlieb, second. The next day an 11th place will arrive in the second descent on the Streif, where in the 1990s the Ghedo already risked the neck bone flying over the Hausbergkante due to the rupture of an attack. A special relationship with "the" track par excellence, until the triumph of 1998 ...
2) The prank of Bormio - 15 March 1995 - Ghedina comes from the leader of the World Cup downhill classification, in the fight with Luc Alphand on the Stelvio that hosts the finals that will see the Azzurri triumphing on all fronts, with Tomba taking it the general crystal sphere and slalom and giant, while Runggaldier triumphs in super-g. The only one to chew bitter will be Kristian, who loses the "coppetta" for the misery of 11 points to the advantage of the French, winner with Ghedo sixth: an athlete would be enough to take away the success in Alphand, but A.J. Kitt and Lasse Kjus, then 2nd and 3rd at the finish line, do not succeed in the enterprise while the ampeggio waits for the finish line and sees the greatest chance of bringing home a cup that it will never be able to conquer vanish.
1) The "split" on the Streif - January 24, 2004 - He had already tested it in practice, but he dreamed of doing so in the race, in front of over 50 thousand crazy fans and ... in the running for the podium. Kristian Ghedina enters the legend one day in late January in Kitz, when he falls in the schuss after the Hausbergkante and, on the final jump that, at the time, it was still a ... jump, widens the skis in an obvious way, too evident not to think that everything was already thought for a real split, in homage to the people present in the temple. At 140 km / h, and then finish in 6th place. "Only he could do such a thing," said Olympian Markus Wasmeier. And only the Ghedo will do it in the history of Kitzbuehel ...
