The 24th edition of the Suedtirol Gardenissima ended successfully: 650 skiers, representing 11 nations, competed on the long and demanding Seceda track. Due to heavy snowfall in the last few days, the race has been postponed for 24 hours, as the weather forecast predicted good weather for Sunday. It was a great challenge for the race director Giovanni Kasslatter and his team who managed to prepare the 6 kilometers of the track that leads from the top of Seceda (2,518 meters) to the arrival at Col Raiser (1,485 meters). , guaranteeing participants the best conditions in complete safety. With a wonderful winter panorama with sun and low temperatures (-14 ° C), the giant race was won by Christof Innerhofer with the absolute best time of 4''07 "14, ahead of the Austrians Otmar Striedinger (4''07 "72) and Daniel Hemetsberger with 4''08" 83. In the women's category, other World Cup level athletes were protagonists, with Austria that this time conquered the first two steps of the podium: success for Franziska Gritsch in 4''14 "04, followed by Christina Ager (4 ' '15 "49) and Nicol Delago, who completed the course in 4''16" 90. In the Ski Legends category for men, the first place was reached by Massimo Penasa, with an excellent time of 4''17 ”18, followed by Peter Runggaldier and Lukas Perathoner. Former Austrian downhill racer Andrea Fischbacher won the women's category, ahead of Verena Stuffer and Nina Himmi. Then, in the afternoon, the Suedtirol Gardenissima Kids took place, the race of the ski champions of tomorrow. Many ski clubs have brought their young athletes from eight different nations to Val Gardena to participate in the challenging giant slalom with an altitude difference of 463 meters.
