A wonderful all-blue finish, with three gold medals and the conquest of the ranking by nations, as well as the final medal table for the Italy of alpine skiing that greets the AlpeCimbra FIS Children Cup by filling up in the youth review for excellence.
The last act of the 51st edition, on the slopes of Fondo Grande di Folgaria, saw the Piedmontese Lara Colturi and the Trentino Mirko Focher victorious in the under 16 giants category, then the South Tyrolean Anna Trocker imposing herself in the special under 14 slalom. bronze of the day came from the Aosta Valley of La Thuile, Giorgia Collomb, already gold in the slalom on Friday.
So many smiles at the award ceremony of the most important youth event in the world of alpine skiing. In particular, that of Lara Colturi, daughter of the Olympic champion Daniela Ceccarelli, who won the under 16 giant on the Agonistic track thanks to an amazing first heat and a more careful but equally incisive second stage. Behind him, at 25 cents, was placed another daughter of art, the German Romy Ertl, then third Giorgia Collomb with a delay of 35 cents and able to recover a position and get on the podium in the second heat. Italy again in fourth place with Nadine Trocker, Anna's elder sister, then sixth the other South Tyrolean Rita Granruaz, eighth Angelica Bettoni Mameli and twelfth Marta D''Angelo.
In the men's under 16 giant, the Trentino from Peio, Mirko Focher, coached by the former blue Omar Longhi, was phenomenal: the standard-bearer of the Vermiglio Tonale Ski Club, who started with a high bib since he was included in the Italy B team, had finished sixth in the first downhill and in the second stage he gave everything, setting the best time in the heats and even winning the overall victory. The promising skier from Trentino led the Austrian Stefan Koch by 36 cents, who in turn preceded his compatriot Florian Neumayer, also two of them recovering from the first heat. Mid-race leader David Sachsenmaier made a number of mistakes and finished 18th, while runner-up Andrea Francesco Armari unfortunately came out at the start of the block.
Focher's victory represents the third success for a Trentino athlete at the international stage. The first to win was Fiorenzo Gerola in 1971, known as the mustache of Folgaria, who on this day had to say goodbye to his father Egidio. In the women's under 14 slalom, held on the adjacent Martinella Nord track, the protagonists of the giant on Friday reversed their positions, also with respect to the response of the first heat. So to triumph was the South Tyrolean Anna Trocker, excellent in the second round and gold medal with 22 cents of margin over the German Luisa Illig, while the bronze went to the neck of the Dutch Anouk Van Maren. Fourth the Slovenian Julija Strel and fifth the blue Beatrice Mazzoleni.
In the men's field, the Finnish Samu Timonen scored twice. After the gold in the giant, the one in the slalom also arrived for him and with an abysmal gap on the second classified, the Slovenian Jan Zizek, who in turn preceded his teammate Lan Vezovnik. The first of the Italians was Christian Kostner from Val Gardena, fifth one cent from fourth place and 58 cents from the medal zone.
For the Organizing Committee directed by Fabrizio Gennari, another edition full of satisfactions is being archived, with 31 nations present and an intense week of competitions, managed with care and professionalism also thanks to the precious collaboration of the Apt Alpe Cimbra and Ski Team Alpe Cimbra. The tricolor is also definitely waving on the podium reserved for the ranking by nations, with the Italy A team winning the final classification, which also takes into account the Team Event on Wednesday, with 223 points, followed by Germany with 179 points and by Italy B , who hits a bronze thanks to the extraordinary comeback victory of Mirko Focher from Trentino, totaling 160 points. Followed by Slovenia with 142, Finland with 139 and Austria with 83 points.
