Now it's official, Karl Schmidhofer is the new president of the Austrian federation after the Schroecksnadel reign

After 31 years of presidency of the Tyrolean executive, here is the 59-year-old Styrian: today he is nominated in Villach as number 1 of the OESV.

Peter Schroecksnadel's long reign as head of the Austrian federation officially ended today. A month after the regional votes, which had already clearly expressed his preference for his appointment, after Michael Walchhofer and Renate Goetschl, the two candidates until the first half of May, had effectively canceled each other out, Karl Schmidhofer is became the new president of the OESV. The 85th national conference, staged this morning in Villach, ratified the election of the 59-year-old executive who was already head of the federation in Styria, as well as having held various positions at an entrepreneurial and political level. Uncle of Nicole Schmidhofer, the number 1 of the most powerful federation of winter disciplines will have the mandate for the next three years, until 2024, after Schroecksnadel had led it from 1990 to today. Karl Schmidhofer is the 22nd president in the 116-year history of the Austrian Ski Association. In his first words as the new head of the OESV, he expressed a “special thanks to Prof. Peter Schroecksnadel for his successful decade-long work. For the 1,100 clubs with 130,000 members, we also want to promote sport on a popular level and get children passionate about exercise in our Association. The OESV must at the same time remain an international showcase for Austria as a sporting and tourist country, with important events such as World Cups and World Championships ”. The election also sanctioned the other appointments of the new board: Roswitha Stadlober, Alfons Schranz and Kurt Steinkogler were confirmed in office as vice presidents, roles that have left Michael Walchhofer and Toni Leikam himself. In addition to Stadlober (Salzburg), Schranz (Tyrol) and Steinkogler (Upper Austria), Claudia Strobl-Traninger (Carinthia) and Hermann Nagiller (Tyrol) will also be present for the next three years. Christian Scherer will be the general secretary, while Patrick Ortlieb will be the financial advisor.
