Retirements after the 2021/22 season? Italy greets 6 athletes from CdM, Jansrud and Janka the most "heavy" names

Let's summarize the situation of those who have decided to leave the white circus: Moelgg, Nani, Gasslitter, Midali, Sosio and Francesca Marsaglia, the blues whom we will no longer see at the gate from next year.

Arriving at the end of April, a balance can be drawn of the withdrawals, at least those announced so far, of those who have decided to leave competitive skiing at the highest levels during and at the end of the 2021/22 season. Carlo Janka and Kjetil Jansrud, who left after their respective home races, ie the weekend in Wengen in the case of the Grisons and that of Kvitfjell in the case of the Norwegian, are the heaviest names; we are talking about two Olympic and world champions, as well as winners of several crystal balls (Janka also the absolute one, touched by Jansrud). To tell the truth, compared to the last few seasons there have not been many top-level athletes to leave; Italy, however, greeted six protagonists seen in the World Cup in recent years. Manfred Moelgg, after almost twenty years, said goodbye to skiing in a moving way after the Flachau slalom last March 9, a few days after the announcement of Francesca Marsaglia, who closed her adventure in the white circus with the super-g from Lenzerheide. After the end of the season, however, Roberta Midali, Verena Gasslitter, Federica Sosio and Roberto Nani hung up on their skis, all four largely conditioned by physical problems and forced to close their careers prematurely. A few days ago news of the retirement of Erin Mielzynski, Canadian slalomist who won in the maximum circuit and, remaining on the subject of specialists in narrow poles, had instead abandoned the Norwegian Kristina Riis-Johannessen already during the season. In addition to Janka, it's time to say goodbye to Nils Mani, Cedric Ochsner, Charlotte Chable and Luana Fluetsch at home in Switzerland. Austria lost Clemens Nocker and Stephanie Resch, Sweden Magdalena Fjaellstroem (already during the season) and Tobias Windingstad, France instead Roy Piccard and Tiffany Gauthier in the speed sector. Finally, a veteran like the Slovenian Marusa Ferk-Saioni, the American Alex Leever and another slalomist, the young Croatian Elias Kolega also affected by the injuries that have prevented him from competing in the last two years.
