A second time for Sestriere, 32 years after the 1997 World Cup, or for Val Gardena after that historic world champion event of the 1970 edition? Tomorrow we will know which Italian resort will be called to officially apply for FIS, to try to bring home the 2029 Alpine Ski World Championships. A ballot in some ways unique, which the FISI has to manage after that, following the announcement of last February by the Piedmontese locality, the one from Val Gardena arrived; in reality, in Alto Adige the dossier was expected to be presented only because, at first, the project of world candidacy had been carried out in tandem with Alta Badia. The rumors indicate Val Gardena with a slight advantage over Sestriere and the Piedmont Region, but only on Thursday will we know, at the end of the preliminary election at the national level, which reality will present itself in front of the FIS for the official candidacy. The International Federation will choose in spring 2024, after next year the skein on which location will host the 2027 edition of the World Cup will be unraveled: four candidates, namely Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Crans-Montana, who were defeated by the confrontation with Saalbach for the 2025, Norway with Narvik and the Principality of Andorra with Soldeu. At that point, we will understand who will try again for 2029, when Italy will certainly be in the running eight years after the edition just held, last February, in Cortina.
