Rinaldo Cigolla, a true ambassador of Trentino skiing and appreciated sculptor of the Val di Fassa, passed away at the age of 85.
Having approached skiing from a very young age, he immediately distinguished himself for technical skills and determination in local competitions. In 1954 he joined the Fiamme Oro Sports Group by participating in national and international alpine skiing competitions. After his experience as an athlete he became a ski instructor and subsequently coach of the Italian Winter Sports Federation, following in particular the federal center of Val di Fassa, from which athletes such as Diego Amplatz, Tone Valeruz, but also his sons Igor ( a podium in the World Cup, a gold medal at the Universiade and for many years in charge of the skiers group Fiamme Oro) and Anastasia, skier of the national team and appreciated national instructor, as well as advisor of the FISI.
He was one of the founders of the Fassa Ski Team, with the aim of creating a unique ski club for the Ladin valley, but also one of the key figures in the organization of the Marcialonga, becoming its general representative for the Val di Fassa up to 1977. In addition to skiing, his other great passion has always been wood carving, which allowed him to be appreciated in the artistic field, obtaining the appointment of Knight of the Italian Republic for artistic merits in 1973 and an honorary doctorate in architecture at the Colombia University of New York in 1993.
