We are moving towards an important change, long overdue by most of the athletes who have contested this rule for years.
This is the starting order of the speed races (also for the combined), which should experience a new revolution, to be ratified already in the FIS congress scheduled for the end of May in view of the 2022/23 season: last year's online meeting. weekend, which saw as protagonists the representatives chosen from Italy, Austria, Switzerland and Germany for a working commission dedicated to the topic, in fact led to the creation of a format that should definitely satisfy more than the solution that has been active for years, or with the best 10 of the specialty WCSL who can choose an odd number from 1 to 19, almost always forcing (especially in super-g it risks being a sentence) to the lowest bib number the last athlete with the possibility of choice.
We would move to a draw for the top 10 in the world, relative to the numbers from 6 to 15, the same for the athletes from 11th to 20th place in the WCSL for bibs from 1 to 5 and from 16 to 20, finally 21-30 for the same athletes in those positions (as is already the case in this case).
In addition to formalizing the first historic of the women's CdM in Kvitfjell and a second phase of the North American trip at the end of the season, between Palisades Tahoe and Aspen, the FIS should also ratify a significant change regarding the parallels (the individual ones will be only two, in Lech / Zuers in CdM and that of the World Championships in Courchevel-Méribel).
The maximum gap that can be accumulated in a run, in fact, would rise to 75 cents instead of the classic half second used so far given what happened, especially in the case of the world race in Cortina 2021, with the deterioration of one of the two tracks which led to the loss of more than those infamous 50 cents in the decisive descent.
