Spyder Redline Alpin, here is the successor to the Global Racing Team: Erik Read joined by Borgnaes and Soevik in an ambitious project

From the Global Racing Team to… Spyder Redline Alpin.

A sort of legacy, although the tracks and the people involved are partly different: a new, decidedly ambitious outfit has been created, whose aims closely resemble those of the “Global” project. In recent years, once they had left the national-team structures in their respective countries, many high-level athletes trained there. Simon Maurberger himself ended his career with the 2025/26 season, which was also the final season for that organization.

Spyder, a very well-known clothing company that has often invested in top-level skiing, has decided to support a project conceived by American skiers Jimmy Krupka and Tim Gavett. It welcomes independent athletes with an already significant competitive background. The biggest name is Erik Read, with the veteran Canadian joined by compatriots Liam Wallace (who is in fact still part of the national team, but will train under the technical management of Spyder Redline Alpin at his own specific request) and youngster Etienne Mazellier.

Then there is Christian Borgnaes, who for years has single-handedly defended the Danish flag after leaving Austria. The solid giant slalom racer trained with the Global Racing Team, while another exciting emerging talent is former Norwegian Christian Soevik, who, like Lucas Pinheiro Braathen, has decided to race for Brazil. The coaching staff is first-rate, led by Ryan Wilson, Ian Harbury and Scott Houser, along with Gavett’s parents, Dave and Traudl Haecher-Gavett. One of the founders of Spyder Redline Alpin, Traudl is Bavarian, with four World Cup victories and a bronze medal in the giant slalom at the 1991 World Championships in Saalbach. The staff also includes an extremely Italian physiotherapist, Friulian Pietro Martinuzzi, who is likewise arriving from Global Racing.

Having already started training during the summer on French glaciers, the “Spyder” athletes split their time between indoor training at the German ski dome in Wittenburg and, later, training with the entire team in New Zealand. They will then be based in Austria for the whole of winter 2026/27, establishing a headquarters in Oberperfuss.
