An earthquake in Austria, due to a serious family situation.
Karl Schmidhofer (uncle of the downhill skier Nicole), 59-year-old Styrian leader at the head of one of the most important federations in the panorama of winter disciplines, as well as a reference point for alpine skiing, today announced his resignation from number 1 of the OESV, after having inherited the historic presidency of Peter Schroecksnadel only on 19 June.
The reason is linked to the health conditions of the son, who suffered a stroke at the age of 35: "I would like to thank everyone for the collaboration and trust they have placed in me and, I am sure, our association is in an optimal state for the future ”, Schmidhofer's words today in Innsbruck. An election that had been quite complicated, with many controversies also linked to the candidacies of the great former Renate Goetschl and Michael Walchhofer, but which he had found in the Styrian executive, who had also been involved in politics for some time, a figure who had put d '' agreement all.
Vice President Roswitha Stadlober will now take over as interim president. Further steps for the OESV will be determined at a board meeting next week.
