Val Gardena is already entering into the details of the candidacy to host the 2029 Alpine Ski World Championships, so much so that on April 7th there will also be the presentation of the official logo. On the occasion of an informal meeting, the president of the Province Arno Kompatscher and Roland Demetz, Christoph Senoner and Tobia Moroder - mayors of the three municipalities of Val Gardena - were updated by the federal president Flavio Roda, and by the president of the Saslong Classic Club, Rainer Senoner. , on the timing and contents of the candidacy to bring back, 59 years after that historic edition of 1970, the world championship in the shadow of Sassolungo. The organizing committee of Val Gardena has been hosting World Cup races since 1969 - almost continuously - and is recognized throughout the world as an example of best practice. Now the Saslong Classic Club has set itself the challenge of organizing the Alpine Ski World Championships. “We are aware of the great responsibility that a candidacy for the World Cup brings with it. Our goal is to organize an international sport party, where the best athletes and the best athletes from all over the world can show their skills in maximum safety and can experience exciting moments of sport. In doing so, we attach great importance to sustainability. We want to leave a positive heritage to the next generations - just as the pioneers of 1970 left it to us ", said Rainer Senoner, president of the Saslong Classic Club, during the meeting on Tuesday afternoon with Arno Kompatscher, Flavio Roda and precisely the mayors Roland Demetz, Christoph Senoner and Tobia Moroder. Also present at the meeting were the representatives of two important partners of the candidacy: for Dolomites Val Gardena Ambros Hofer (president), Ezio Prinoth and Christoph Vinatzer. For the Ropeway Consortium Val Gardena / Alpe di Siusi, the president Andreas Schenk. "It is understandable, due to the latest experiences at the Beijing Olympic Games and the World Cup in Qatar, that there are also voices opposed to the candidacies - continues Senoner - This is why we are committed to acting with respect towards the unique landscape, in the center of the Dolomites - UNESCO World Heritage, and of our population ". The President of the Province Arno Kompatscher and the Provincial Councilor Daniel Alfreider, who had to cancel his participation in the meeting due to a sudden appointment, welcome sporting events in the provincial territory. “South Tyrol is a land of sports with excellent athletes and athletes, great sports legends and also exceptional events. For us it is very important that sporting events are compatible with the landscape and with the people who live in Val Gardena and in the surrounding municipalities ", underlined Kompatscher, also stating that Val Gardena already has the necessary infrastructures at its disposal. technical-sporting, such as the ski slopes. However, adaptation and remediation interventions cannot be ruled out. Both the President of the Kompatscher Province and the Provincial Councilor Alfreider see the World Championships as a great chance for Val Gardena. An opportunity that the organizing committee of Val Gardena wants to seize with the Italian Winter Sports Federation, a strong partner, at its side. “Our meeting was very fruitful. Val Gardena's candidacy for the 2029 World Cup is proceeding in the best possible way. Val Gardena can be sure of the full support of the FISI. The Federation supports Val Gardena, as it has been from the first moment. This is a strong candidacy, supported by many institutions and partners. I am convinced that Val Gardena will be able to compete well in the moment of assignment ”, said Flavio Roda. In the next few years, the municipalities of Val Gardena will play an important role: Selva di Val Gardena, Santa Cristina di Val Gardena and Ortisei. “Our task is to be present with our support and above all to actively involve the population, so that it becomes a celebration of sport and of the community. At the same time, we will contribute to shaping this process towards a valley with a sustainable future ", underlined the mayors Roland Demetz (Selva), Christoph Senoner (S. Cristina) and Tobia Moroder (Ortisei), who added:" They must not be put in the foreground only the economic benefits for the various sectors. It is also a question of ensuring the quality of life of all citizens ”. The preparation of the candidacy dossier for the World Cup is in full swing in Val Gardena. It mainly contains technical details, concerning for example the slopes but also the financing. This dossier will have to be deposited at the FIS headquarters in spring 2023. In May 2024, as part of the FIS congress; finally, the 2029 World Championships will be assigned. Until then Rainer Senoner and his team will propose various initiatives to try to give Val Gardena the necessary majority for the vote.
