As is well known, Val Gardena will be the candidate for Italy to host the edition of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 2029. The decision was made today by the FISI Council, after having listened to the projects of the two locations that they had proposed: Sestriere and, in fact, the South Tyrolean reality. “Two excellent projects that attracted the attention of the councilors for over two hours of presentation - reads the federal note - at the end of which we went to the polls. The public counting, in front of the two organizing committees, decreed the clear victory of the South Tyrolean valley (8 to 2 preferences, ed). Now, the Italian Winter Sports Federation and the Val Gardena committee will work together to finalize the candidacy that must be presented to the FIS Council ”. “The Board expressed itself almost unanimously - commented President Flavio Roda - and therefore there is not much to add. For my part, I say that they were two excellent proposals, of a high level and of great tradition. They would have deserved both, but only one could be the candidate. However, it is important that the movement is lively and that it has been possible to choose ”. It also emerges that in the event of a defeat for 2029 (a World Cup that would arrive eight years after Cortina 2021), Val Gardena would try again for 2031. We remind you that, 21 months after the election (late May / early June 2024), no other candidates have yet emerged to host the world championship that will arrive after Courchevel Méribel 2023, Saalbach 2025 and the winner of the comparison between Garmisch, Crans Montana, Narvik and Soldeu for 2027.
