Wiles and McKennis again on skis: American skiing finds its peaks and presents the news in the staff

Many injuries and expected returns in the women's sector, while at home the US Ski Team changes in male speed with Randy Pelkey new head of the sector

Behind Mikaela Shiffrin, after the withdrawal of a star like Lindsey Vonn, in the women's sector (but the male one is not much better ...) a decidedly important void has been created in US alpine skiing. If the gaps in the technical sector are evident, except for the superstar winner of the last 3 World Cups, in the speed the Stars and Stripes team had found a nice group of athletes who grew up following the example of Vonn, among other things very tied to his (ex) team-mates. The injuries, however, have affected the last two seasons and only now the US Ski Team is finding some of its most anticipated athletes. Jacqueline Wiles, after the very serious injury suffered in Garmisch 14 months ago, a few weeks before the Olympics in which she could play a high-level outsider role, put the skis back on her feet just a few days ago at Mammoth Mountain: "After a year, two months and 20 days - wrote the class sprinter ''92 on social media - finally back on skis. It was a special day, thanks to all those who supported me on this journey ". Same route, albeit a bit shorter, for Alice McKennis who "accompanied" Wiles on his return to the snow: "After so much suffering and five operations, hard work is beginning to pay off - the words of the '89 Colorado class "I feel like it's finally possible to come back again." The recovery of Laurenne Ross is also expected, but at least until the second part of the summer from the tracks after the new operation on his left knee in recent weeks, and Breezy Johnson who had already returned to skiing in March and should be able to 100% preparation for the return to Lake Louise, in the first speed stage of the next World Cup season. MEN'S SECTOR, CHANGES Staying with the US Ski Team, there are substantial changes in the men's speed sector, with historian responsible John McBride leaving his post, as he had announced at the end of the season for a choice of a family nature. In its place returns Randy Pelkey, who had led some of the current protagonists of the team, from Bennett to Goldberg, in his decade of work with young Americans interrupted, from 2017, for the adventure of head coach with the Korean national in optics PyeongChang games. Moreover, for the technical specialty team, the great chief Forest Carey will make use of the work, in addition to the confirmed Ian Garner, of the novelty Will Courtney and, as far as the slalom is concerned, of Ryan Wilson.
