Innerhofer and an intact spirit: "How much desire to ski. I'm sure: I can still win"

VIDEO - From Zoncolan to cycling training, "Inner" is already running fast towards the Olympic season. The interview carried out by Alessandro Genuzio to the South Tyrolean champion.

An intact spirit, an incredible desire to ski and compete at the highest levels. “Yes, I can still win. That will be the "goal for next year". At 36, Christof Innerhofer is always the warrior who, even in a particular season like the one that is ending with last weekend's training on the snows of Zoncolan, was competitive between super-g and downhill in the great classics in January and at the World Championships in Cortina, touching the podium several times that he would certainly have deserved for the quality of the performances seen from Kitzbuehel forward. For the champion of Gais there is no real gap between one year and another. “Now the bicycle awaits me, my other great passion. And the stage of the next Giro d''Italia that will arrive at the Zoncolan will be beautiful. I competed here when I was very young in the FIS, I haven't come for many years and I always find a beautiful track, even if this heat has made everything more difficult for us. Better this way, it's good for me to ski when I don't feel much skiing, it's a useful job for fast disciplines ". With "Inner" we analyzed a 2020/21 season of which "I can't be happy, because I can do better - explains the South Tyrolean sprinter - I wasn't even lucky, if we think that from the first day of skiing up to Bormio, I had a shoe problem that I did not know and I discovered after the races on the Stelvio. I realized that it was not possible to struggle so hard when cornering ... Then I had the covid, but at Kitz I was always there, 4th and 5th several times and then 6th at the World Championships, where I didn't have my skiman available because of the virus ". Beijing 2022 is the dream of other Olympic medals after the silver and bronze medals of Sochi 2014, but not only in the thoughts of Innerhofer who has already started with a very long preparation as always. “Unfortunately, we are at the last training sessions on the snow, it hurts your heart to stop with all this snow available. I worked a lot on slalom and giant slalom, I need a lot to stay in shape technically and I put together about twenty days in spring. I hope to see all this commitment paid off, but for me it is always fun considering the passion I have for this sport ”.
