A disappointing season, out of the World Cup finals and with the bitterness of the exit in the first heat of the world slalom in Cortina. Just in the world championship race, however, Stefano Gross showed that he was still there in terms of competitiveness, with that bitter fork that put out the 34-year-old Fassa specialist's dreams of a medal.
We joined him at Monte Zoncolan, on the occasion of the last Italian training sessions for which “Sabo” was also present, already eager to project himself towards the Olympic season. “We had in mind to test exactly in these salty snow conditions, we are pleased to have been able to test material. Last season? I expected a lot, just because I had solved the physical problems, but I lost confidence in the first races, while in training I was skiing really hard.
Just before Cortina, I found the right sensations also in the race, but in the World Championship I was able to prove my worth only for three quarters of the heats. I can stay up front and this gives me confidence for next year, with the best time in the 2nd heat of Kranjska Gora and the tricolor of Livigno which represented a good closing ”.
The comparison with young people, Vinatzer in particular, can also give a lot to the blue "old men", with Moelgg, Razzoli and Gross himself who will also be there for the Olympic year. “It is a psychological stimulus, but also on the level of skiing the comparison is important because we are constantly changing”.
