Nordic Combined: Riiber also dominates in Otepää, 40 wins in the World Cup

The format changes but not the result: Jarl Magnus Riiber always wins. The Norwegian champion imposed himself in the Otepää Mass Start, winning both the cross-country race and the jumping segment. With today's success he reaches the significant milestone of 40 wins in the World Cup. Place of honor in comeback for Bjoernstad, third Manuel Faisst. The Azzurri Buzzi and Pittin entered the points.

Change the format but not the result. After the cancellation of yesterday's Provisional Competition Round due to wind, the race direction decided to reverse the program and therefore to change the format, moving to Mass Start, which had not been seen in the World Cup since December 2018. On that occasion in Lillehammer Riiber won ahead of Frenzel and Riessle. In a competition context that favors the jumpers, Riiber was therefore reconfirmed, winning both the cross-country trial and the jumping segment: perfect race and 40th career success in the World Cup. In the cross-country segment he let the Germans and the Finnish Ilkka Herola let off steam before breaking through in the final. The Norwegian with an author's sprint in fact printed Vinzenz Geiger and Joergen Graabak, with Rydzek 4th, Lamparter 5th and Frenzel 6th. As expected, the gaps were limited and as many as 26 athletes finished less than 30 ”from the head, including the Italians Buzzi, excellent 14th, Pittin 25th and Costa 26th. Everything was then decided in the jump series. On the trampoline Riiber was even stronger than the wind that had made all the direct opponents capitulate one after the other, collapsed in the standings. With a crosswind he printed a 96 m anthology: best size and 13.5 points trimmed at Bjoernstad 2nd. An abysmal detachment considering the small size of the trampoline. Bjoernstad, 15th halfway through the race, took advantage of good conditions by recovering to the place of honor. The Norwegian, on the sixth podium in his career, thus preceded Manuel Faisst 3rd and Ryota Yamamoto 4th, with Herola 5th. As mentioned, Lamparter slipped behind, at the end 8th, Geiger 12th, Rydzek 18th and Graabak 24th and then disqualified. Positive day for Buzzi and Pittin, able to defend themselves on the trampoline. The two finished in 26th and 27th place. 35th instead Samuel Costa, 44th Kostner.
