As the custom of the Northern League's maximum circuit, the last weekends of August mean the start of hostilities for winning the Summer Grand Prix. This weekend, a couple of competitions were held in Oberwiesenthal: yesterday it started with an appetizer sprint team, while today it has been serious with a classic gundersen.

A brief premise must be made: the Nordic Combined Summer GP is in no way comparable to that of the special jumping since these competitions are fine themselves and are not taken into account either for the World Ranking List or for Olympic qualification .
So several nations have chosen to desert the Saxon week-end: all over Norway, which on its own had the honor of defending the success of Jarl Magnus Riiber's past year; Then the Italian team and the French team did not send any of their representatives to compete, but if the team led by Paolo Bernardi is a choice in line with past times, the same can not be said of the transalpines that in recent years have had In Francois Braud a card more valid for summer competitions.
However, the absent par excellence was Johannes Rydzek: the four-time winner of the summer general standings forfeited as well as veterans of the Austrian team (Bernhard Gruber, Wilhelm Denifl and Lukas Klapfer) as well as Philipp Orter and Paul Gerstgraser.
In spite of all these absences, the Rot-Weiß-Rot team did not disappoint expectations: in a relatively poorly-qualified context (17 of the best 30 of the World Cup 2016-17 general were absent) won and convinced Mario Seidl.
The 24-year-old from Salzburg made the best leap as he landed at the HS (106 meters), despite judging the judges very low. A handful of seconds from the athlete in question took the leader of the Japanese movement Akito Watabe.
In the first half of the bottom segment, the two conducted a couple of attempts to resist as much as possible from the return of fearsome hosts. The deal, however, jumped during the fourth round of six, when the Austrian disconnected the oldest rival. In this way, Seidl went to his third summer career win at the Summer GP, the first away from his native Austria.
Watabe lost the tide of the most brilliant Seidl, and was rebuffed by the Teutonic train: on the finish line, the Japanese could not do anything against the homemates Eric Frenzel (2nd) and Fabian Riessle (3rd), ending with an amara Fourth place.
So the teutonic rule seen in the past winter was partially broken, not so much because some athletes are lagging behind in terms of others, as for the fact that a skiroll competition is far more sport than a skiing bottom.
Fifth place for another German, Bjoern Kircheisen: The Saxon veteran missed a few strikes in the last leg against the younger countrymen, but he was good at defending the position in question by the tracker Hideaki Nagai (6th).
A couple of surprise names among the top 10: The 21-year-old Estonian Kristjan Ilves and the twenty-two-year-old Stylist Martin Fritz picked their best career results in summer competition, having placed relatively in the 7th and 8th position. They ended the top 10 with the two leaders of the Finnish movement, with Ilkka Herola who preceded a few tenths of a second Eero Hirvonen.
A bit appalled by the protagonists of the Team Sprint on Saturday: 24 hours ago were Tomas Portyk (12th) and Miroslav Dvorak (16th) to win the best palm in front of the pair formed by the big Frenzel-Riessle teutons. The third coin had been awarded to another German couple, Vinzenz Geiger's name (now 30th with great effort) and Jakob Lange (not even in the bottom segment because of a unbreakable detachment caused by 2 meters and Windmill behind found in the moment of the execution of your jump).
The overall ranking of the 18th edition of the Summer Grand Prix reflects today's result: Seidl (100) has been nominated to be one of the men to beat, followed by Frenzel (80) and Riessle (60).
As usual, the top Nordic skiing circuit will be competing again next week: Tschagguns (Austria) is scheduled for a single race on Wednesday, August 23, where some of the blue team's players will return.
