Todd Lodwick of the United States will be the standard-bearer in the opening ceremony

The U.S. Olympic Committee has decided the name of the bearer of the United States during the inaugural ceremony of Sochi 2014. Todd Lodwick is the chosen one, the first American athlete can participate in 6 editions of the Olympic Winter Games.

The thirty-seven of Steamboat Springs nordic combined will be the first in history to serve as standard-bearer for the U.S.. In the past, only two other athletes from the Nordic disciplines had that honor, or cross-country skiers Rolf Monsen (Garmisch 1936) and Bill Koch (Albertville 1992). Four years ago in Vancouver the standard-bearer was the American luger Mark Grimmette. France has also decided to appoint a nordic combined, or Jason Lamy-Chappuis, the flag during the opening ceremony. In addition, the'' Austria could opt for Mario Stecher.
