The low temperatures not enough to make the snowmaking work better require the organizers of Ruka's Opener to run for cover.

As usual, the Cross-Country World Cup will start on Saturday and Sunday with the Finnish Ruka stage where we start with a Sprint in classic technique to continue on Sunday with an interval start test, again in classical technique, about 15 km for men and 10 km for women.
The absence of snow and the higher temperatures than normal have forced the organizers to modify the initial plans: program confirmed but it will not be possible to use the 5 km long ring as planned. No problem for Sprints, the distance test will take place on shorter tracks instead. The men's competition will involve 4 laps of a 3.75 km ring while the women's race will be played on 3 laps of 3.3 km.
"The organization worked hard to ensure that the competitions were carried out according to pre-established plans," said Ruka Nordic's general secretary, Seppo Linjakumpu, "This is the best possible solution under these conditions and allows us to guarantee a quality path for athletes ".
