The former Norwegian founder died as a result of a water jet accident at the island of St. Helena in Hovekilen.

The police are trying to clarify the dynamics of the incident, at the moment still unclear. Vibeke had disappeared on Saturday night and the body was found this morning on the beach of the island.
Skofterud failed at the age of 38 and the tragedy hit the world of cross-country skiing and the whole of Norway hard. In his career he won the gold medal with the relay race at Oberstdorf 2005 and Oslo 2011, in addition to the Olympic gold always in relay race in Vancouver 2010 conquered in the company of Marit Bjørgen, Therese Johaug and Kristin Steira. In 2012 it was the first Norwegian able to impose itself in Vasaloppet. After the withdrawal in 2015, last winter Vibeke had been in Pyeongchang as a technical commentator for Eurosport.
