The first distance race of the World Championships in Seefeld crowns Therese Johaug who wins the fifth individual title of the career, the 'eighth overall.

A triumph already written achieved by interpreting a script that leaves no room for the slightest suspense. After two km of the 15 scheduled Norwegian, which in 2015 was imposed in the last World Skiathlon in which he participated, has already made a vacuum: the bulk of the possible suitors to a medal has already 10 seconds of detachment intended to enlarge beyond measure during the morning. The only ones to try to defend themselves with some glimmer of hope are the compatriots Astrid Jacobsen and Ingvild Flugstad Oestberg and the Russian alternate specialist Natalia Nepryaeva. The three in the first lap (3.75 km) can limit the damage to a handful of seconds but at the change of ski half the race already pay 26 seconds to the undisputed leader. Parmakoski and the others between which Elisa Brocard (ninth provisional) and Anna Comarella (15) are about fifty seconds, the rest of the world well over a minute.
In the second part of the race, in skating, the fight for the two remaining steps of the podium comes on. A quartet composed by the Swedish Charlotte Kalla and Frida Karlsson, Heidi Weng and Krista Parmakoski puts on the slopes of Nepryaeva, Jacobsen and Oestberg limiting the gap in sight while Therese Johaug continues to grind seconds on seconds. At the last lap in the stadium before the final lap, the Norwegian has 57 seconds ahead of compatriots who leave to Nepryaeva the 'burden of pursuit and must watch from the quartet that is only 10 seconds where the Finnish Parmakoski struggled .

An excellent fifth position for the nineteen-year-old Swedish Frida Karlsson who precedes her compatriot Charlotte Kalla, Heidi Weng and Krista Parmakoski. The Russian Anastasia Sedova is 10th at 1.50.4, the American Rosie Brennan is 10th.
Excellent performance by Elisa Brocard, fourteenth on the finish line at 2.36.2, and Anna Comarella, seventeenth at 2.41.8. Caterina Ganz is thirty-third, Sara Pellegrini thirty-fifth.
