Johaug and Oestberg, who started with a tenth of a second on Heidi Weng and Andersson, imposed a high pace from the first meters, doubling the advantage over the pursuers at the first passage to the stadium.
The two then alternated in command, without however being able to make a difference. The leader of the Tour de Ski tried in the most demanding sections to disconnect her compatriot, who however never lost contact. In the final Oestberg made use of the best sprinter skills and in the sprint he conquered the first victory of the season.
Behind the pursuing couple was joined by Jacobsen and Nepryaeva. In the second round the Norwegian tried to take off, but under the impulse of Andersson the quartet remained compact. In the sprint Weng conquered the lowest step of the podium, beating by a tenth Nepryaeva. Instead he closed 5th in Jacobsen, able to precede the young Swede.
