Planica immediately gives a show: Eisenbichler wins the qualification, well the blues

With a jump of 225.5 m Markus Eisenbichler won the qualification for the World Flight Championships in Planica, ahead of Hayboeck (242.5 m) and Granerud (221.5 m). Well the blues, both qualified for tomorrow's race, and in particular Giovanni Bresadola, able to overcome the 200 m for the first time in his career.

Surprises and twists have not been lacking since the training jumps, during which the race lost some protagonists between renunciations and exclusions. The first forfeit came from the Norwegian Marius Lindvik, who, not believing he had a suitable psychophysical condition to face a flying competition, decided to return to Norway. In the second training jump, instead, Stefan Kraft gave up, who after an excellent first jump, felt a strong pain in his back. The Austrian remained in Planica anyway and will try to be there in Sunday’s team competition. Forced stop also for the two Swiss entered the race, who were unable to jump due to a suspected positivity from Covid-19 within the technical staff. On the other hand, German Severin Freud and Slovenian Peter Prevc, who gave way to his brother Domen, on his seasonal debut, were excluded for technical choice after an internal selection. Despite the absences, the show was not lacking and important responses also arrived from the two Italians at the start: Giovanni Bresadola and Alex Insam. Both qualified for tomorrow's race and the former had the satisfaction of overcoming the 200m for the first time in his career. The best score of the day was recorded by Markus Eisenbichler, who preceded by six lengths Michael Hayboeck, who landed at 242.5 (best measure and personal best), and World Cup rival Granerud. Karl Geiger, defending champion Tande, Stoch and Johansson all stood at the foot of the podium, all between 4th and 7th place. The Slovenians did not shine, however, with Bor Pavlovcic 11th to hold the flag high. The first two series of competition are scheduled for tomorrow at 16:00. At the end of the first series there will be a further cut and the best thirty will access the three final series, the last two scheduled for Saturday.
