Ski jumping: the Poles put on a show in Willingen. Stekala the best in qualification, Insam passes the cut

This afternoon began with qualification for tomorrow's race, also valid for the “Willingen six”, the twelfth stage of the 2020/21 Men's Ski Jumping World Cup. Only one Italian player in Germany: Alex Insam, with Giovanni Bresadola left to prepare for the upcoming junior world championships.

The grandeur of Willingen’s Large Hill (HS set at 147 m) and the strong head wind made it possible to witness a noteworthy spectacle. The protagonists are the Polish jumpers: in particular Andrzej Stekala, author of a jump of 152 m that allowed him to win the qualification. In truth, the measurement obtained by the 25-year-old from Zakopane was not the best of the day. The compatriot Klemens Muranka has in fact pushed one meter further, signing the new record of the springboard at 153 m. Halvor Egner Granerud was among the big names on the circuit, who came out without physical consequences after Sunday's crash in Lahti. The Norwegian found less favorable wind than the competition and finished 139.5m, finishing 2nd at 1.7 points from Stekala. Third place of the day for Markus Eisenbichler (142 m), who preceded Daniel Andre Tande 4th and Klemens Muranka 5th. Other possible protagonists of the Saturday and Sunday races struggled: Ryoyu Kobayashi 16th, Stefan Kraft 19th, Kamil Stoch 29th and Karl Geiger, even 42nd. Objective achieved for Alex Insam, at the end 46th and with the pass in hand for the first race. The Val Gardena is the only blue present in Willingen as Giovanni Bresadola is finishing his preparation for the junior world championships, scheduled in Lahti from 10 to 12 February.
