Ski jumping: Robert Johansson wins the qualification in Zakopane, Insam eliminated

The World Cup returns three weeks later again to Zakopane, Kamil Stoch's home. The third Polish stage of the season, which opened today with qualification for tomorrow's race, replaces the races that should have been held on the Beijing Olympic jumps.

The best of the day was the Norwegian Robert Johansson, able to take advantage of favorable wind conditions and land at 137 m, clearly the best size of the series, ahead of compatriot Halvor Egner Granerud (133 m) by over six lengths. The ruler of the season tested the springboard for tomorrow’s race, in which he will be chasing his eleventh win of the season. Third position to a growing Stefan Kraft, just a handful of tenths from Granerud. The Austrian put behind him the real surprise of qualifying Simon Ammann 4th and the Poles Stekala 5th and Stoch 6th. The big Germans Karl Geiger 28th and Markus Eisenbichler 39th instead closed in the rear. Also present was the Italian Alex Insam, 54th.
